Just Another Day

UntitledMatthew 2.

“After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied…”

The Magi… foreigners from the east, traveled great distance, and they came to worship Him.

King Herod… heard and was disturbed, enough in fact that he would later commit mass murder in attempt to kill the Messiah.

The chief priests and teachers of the law… the very ones who “taught” about the coming of the King, who offered sacrifices on behalf of the people, who were the devout religious leaders… respond as if it’s just another day. There is no mad dash to Bethlehem to worship the long-awaited King. Just a mindless response.

And their response gets me to thinking…
Is my life story just another mindless response to the extravagant gift of Jesus? Or is everything in me shouting to the rooftops, “The King is Coming!”

My story matters. Your story matters. We can’t live our lives as if it’s just another day.

May we do our part, especially here at Christmas, to bring God’s Kingdom to earth and live knowing that in us and through us, God can make an eternal impact.
