In a recent conversation with my bestie, we were discussing various women and how old they are. Now before you get worried, we were not gossiping. We were trying to make room assignments for our women’s retreat, and since the oldest girl gets the biggest bed in each room, age is important. And, it’s a good thing I had help, because I guessed the wrong age every single time! My guesses weren’t just a year or two off, but way off. The good news is: It was ALWAYS in the woman’s favor. If you want to feel better about yourself, just ask me how old I think you are. Grin.

I’m absolutely not any better at guessing clothing sizes either, but I can tell you this:

I know what size God wears.

Here’s how I know: Several weeks ago I shared with y’all that I am serving in a new program in prison called STRIVE. The program focuses on helping women overcome the trauma that sent them to prison, while also gaining career readiness skills and being prepared for reentry. As part of the program, the women learn how to apply and interview for a job, and then they participate in an actual job fair. They get to wear REAL clothes for the first time since their incarceration.

So, I sent out a plea for gently-worn clothing and shoes; for new bras, panties, and socks; for purses and costume jewelry. And the LOVE HAS ROLLED IN. The backend of my Tahoe has been filled again and again and again. Tuesday is now the happiest day of my week because that’s how I learned what size God wears. He wears size 4 and size 10, size S and size 2XL. He wears petite and plus size…

He wears YOUR size.

He wears YOUR size when you give His love away
… to someone you’ve never met
… to someone who has made terrible mistakes
… to someone who the world has given up on
… to someone who has had every shred of dignity taken from them
… to someone whose hope is all but gone
… to someone who thinks they don’t deserve a second chance

When I deliver your love to prison and I get to see the faces of the women who will wear the things you have so generously donated, I’m confident what size God wears. It’s the same size YOU wear.

I have zero words adequate to describe how your generous love is impacting these women, but I can tell you this. I know one beautiful young woman who has been incarcerated for almost 20 years, and the expression on her face over a real bra was priceless. Absolutely priceless.

1 John 4:11 tells us, “No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”

I haven’t seen God, but I know what size He wears.
