Hello from Santo Domingo, the capital city of the Domincan Republic. I’m here on a mission trip, and I’m learning math. Oh, not the math that was taught in school, but God math. I realize that for many of you, it seems impossible those two words could be used together, but they add up perfectly here where the average Dominican lives on $65 a month, and because I can do Quick Math, less than $1,000 a year.
Living on such a small amount seems positively impossible to me, yet in the short time I’ve been here, I’ve already seen that’s exactly what happens when you rely on God Math. When you, like the widow with her two mites in Luke 21, give all. When you don’t hold anything back. When you don’t think you’ve earned or deserve more. When You don’t just trust God for what you don’t have, but you trust Him for immeasurably more than all you can ask for or imagine. { Ephesians 3:20 }
While most people would say surrender suggests giving up everything, God math is teaching me that it means multiplying exponentially what very little I have to give. I am reminding myself that God can use my kind words to open doors, my willing hands to build bridges, my tender hug to heal broken hearts, and my outstretched arms to unify people. That’s God Math. Taking my little and making it immeasurably more.
Who’s ready to solve some God-sized problems with me?
